Is an expert in automotive lubrication someone who would forget to prime the oil system in a 575 Ferrari? Remember 99 percent of wear occurs on start up.

the back and forth stops now. LSCowboy please stop posting hearsay and irrelevant associations, everyone else, the man has a right to claim whatever he likes without being taunted. You're all free to request verification from eachother but not to mock eachother like 5 year olds.

No more bickering. Mature discussion only please.

If it were me I would choose a synthetic 0w30 or 5w30 and a fram ultra filter
Run first for 5000 miles or 1 year, if it doesn't get horribly dirty right away go for 7500 or 1 year, up to 10000 miles or 1 year if you do a lot of highway driving

If you have had the car for awhile and know the oil history, I would go straight for 7500
I would only do a few quick changes if you know the car has been neglected
Post some pics of the oil fill hole, and underneath the fill cap

Just bought a 99 LS400 yesterday. The dealer had no records to show what oil has been used and I wonder what I should use going forward?

The car has 141k and I live in So Cal. I would like to use synthetic but I was not sure which weight oil I should use considering the age of the car and the mileage. Any opinions?

And should you develop small leaks Ive seen threads where semi synthetic took care of that issue.

I was actually considering a semi synthetic. That is what I run in my 1965 Ford F100 w/ 460 engine.

/edit. I used Mobile 1 High mileage full syn 5w30

I thought these cars were 5.5 quarts but it took nearly 6 quarts of oil, (5.9 quarts)

I have always put 530 castrol conventional oil but can't find any conventional oil anymore except penzoil, I got a 98 with 147k should I go penzoil or castrol synthetic blend I'm nervous about synthetic blend as I heard people have problems on older cars with high miles that switched to it ?
