Manufacturers recommend the platinums purely based on longevity.

Any idea? Don't get me wrong, I agree with what you are saying having a better spark which is good for the engine. Does it really produce a better spark over Iridium plugs or even to what the factory user manual suggested?
yes.

platinum/iridium plugs only really took off when manufacturers started doing mid-engine cars and FWD V6 cars that have HORRIBLY inaccessible spark plugs. to combat this, precious metal spark plugs were developed so that the owners (or the manufacturer's warranty dept) of those new vehicles didnt have to pay for expensive and frequent spark plug changes.

on the LS, plugs are a cakewalk. personally on my own car I see no problem swapping the copper plugs out every year or so (it costs <$20 and takes maybe an hour as i screw around with other stuff, have a drink, etc...) and generally see virtually NO wear on the plug...(i drive ~8-10k miles/year)

COP+Copper plugs=win.

I do agree that the only reason they suggested platinum/irridium is to promote less maintenance. Cooper plugs will always have a better burning "power" thus promoting better combustion. Racers use these all the time.

Now, if I could only convert to COP without changing ECU...

Does that mean you're coming down to So Cal Brandon? He means South Bay as in South Bay, Los Angeles...Torrance, Gardena, Carson, Long Beach, etc.

Glad to hear you've diagnosed and fixed the problem Joseph.

Smile Thanks everyone!

Thanks Brian and everyone else!

It's really nice to have access to a repair manual. I was ready to give up too but I just took my time. Thanks to my brother (masagsxr) for being able to track a 1UZFE repair manual and for being such a post w-h-o-r-e

Sorry Brandon. But yeah, hit us up for when you get down here for a "10" shoot. Maybe on VIP Festival in San Diego
