Default procedure for checking a faulty fuel gauge

I am fixing a number of minor problems on my recently purchased '92 LS 400.
Could not find the procedure for checking/ removing the fuel gauge control unit in the tank, and how to check and see if its bad. Thanks

Search fuel pump removal.

As far as testing the gauge, if you ground the level indicator wire, it should read full tank, IIRC. It could possibly read empty, but try it.
