Default 1993 LS400 3 major questions

Purchased an Ls400

1) noticed that the temps at rest would go high, and then drop as I drove. I've replaced the thermostat and the housing, and followed the instructions to line up the jiggle valve to the top of the fill bolt. Still raises in temps when at idle and goes above the middle getting dangerously into the red zone.

2) The plastic nipple on the resonsator box that connects to the power steering hose broke. Anyone got a work around or a box for 1993 they want to sell me?

3) The breather cap and filter on the throttle body (it looks like a small cap off a film bottle, with a small filter.) What is that called so I can replace it?

For #1, make sure your radiator fan is turning on.

1 Touch the 2 radiator hoses to make sure coolant is flowing. Top should be hotter than bottom. Your coolant temp sensor could be faulty, radiator dirty.

2 Just remove the whole idle up valve on the ps pump and plug it. Plug off intake and resonator nipples. Else use epoxy to glue it back on.

3 Just wash it with a solvent to clean it or make one from home vent filter like me.

1) RESOLVED: Got it resolved, by following : http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/cooli...ant.htmlolvent
Sits right in the middle. Step 12, in that showed a kink in the cable that controls the valve. Notice the little clip that holds down that cable? Well the previous owner had it moved too far forward in the clip such that it wouldnt engage the valve right -- and not in the part that "curves" around it. Once i moved the cable back - it fixed it, added plenty of coolant, tested the system as indicated, and and fixed the issue.

Thanks for the tip

2) Does plugging the valve cause potential issues with passing smog?

3) Resolved(sort of) : Found out where the cap and filter were "hiding" they fell in the crack between the radiator and the front of the car.

Plugging the valve will reduce ps fluid in your cylinders.

Can you explain a little bit more?

I mean..Lexus/Toyota did design it like that for a reason, and I'm trying to understand if this is a common mod, and how/why someone would want to perform such a mod other than what you've described above. (Not trying to be a smart-alec. just figuring out whether I want to do this or not, and whether its going to affect my smog test or not coming up).

Search for it. There's a lot of info on here about the idle up valve.

It tends to start leaking within, resulting in ps fluid traveling up the small hose to the intake manifold, resulting in white smoke at startup.
