Nakamichi skipping 6-pack trunk CD Player
'93 LS 400 223,000kms owned it for 6 mths. CD Player skips so bad its only usable on fresh pavement on the highway. A pebble will make it skip.
Done some searches on here haven't found much chatter about this although I'm sure its a common problem.
What I've done so far:
Used a laser disc cleaner - no help
Disassembled the strapping and removed the player. Surrounded it with a soft choushony rubber-like material between the strapping and the CD player. Also placed some between the screws/washers and where they fasten the CD player to the body. To my surprise - no difference.
So I've basically surrendered that this is old & tired technology & I'll have to hardwire an ipod as described on this forum.
Or remove the factory system and install a nice set up of about 400 watts with 6 new speakers incl. a 10" sealed sub couple amps
But before I do I just wanted to check for other's thoughts/experiences
Thanks

suggestion, after market deck. Sorry but the system is 20 years old there is no way it can compete with systems today. It didn't sound as great as everyone made it out to be compared to todays standards, the stereo i mean. I went to wal mart bought the scosche wiring kit for 1981 toyota and up, you lose the cd changer and sub. Just wire in a new sub, the cd changer didnt even have mp3. In fact my new head unit only has ipod, usb, and sd slots nothing for CD. Im still trying to figure out what to do for a faceplate. Moulded plastic or wood wrapped in black velvet.....?

Ya, Looked on Ebay. One there used for $99. In the US and I'm in Canada.
I agree 100% kuziwk old technology not worth it.
Gues I was expecting more to chime in on this thread I totally expected everyone to say yes their's skipped too and here's how we fixed it for $5
Anyway, yes, new system is in order. I used to compete in stereo competitions back in my days of no family to support. Had a beloved 18" sub in the tiny trunk of a Dodge Stealth and won my class for SPL level and sound quality with only 160 watts.
Older now. 18" not required. Replacing the stock sub with a 10" would be a nice kick tho
And a deck with MP3 for sure, abd they're CHEAP

Callout anyone with 93/94 ls400
PLEASE CHIME-IN if you have a factory Nakamichi 6-pack in the trunk that works or does not work please post your comments. I could get one from the guy I bought my 93 LS400 from (he has a '94 junked and I've been getting parts from it) I just want to know if 90% of these things skip these days or only mine because it's likely non-returnable and I won;t know if it skips 'till I buy it and install it.
Thanks

It's not a Nak player as the 1st gen changers were all Pioneer manufactured...Stands true for the Lexus Pioneer or Nak systems...1990-1992 changers also work as plug and play..

Figured that out when the car came with no 6-pack cartridge and I had to use my old Pioneer one, someone said it would work and it did

However sounds like they don't all skip like I suspected, therefore the '91 and '94 LS's that I keep robbing parts off likley have decent 6-packs in them that are likley cheap so maybe I'll do that.
Kinda thinking I'd like to wire up my old Pioneer KEX-M900 with 6-pack with aftermarket amp(s) subs (sealed bandpass would be nice) and speakers.....
Thanks for the replies
