Default Consumer Reports: 1990,1993 LS400 Reviews (Scanned)

For your reading pleasure, I've taken the time to scan some old magazines I have of LS400 reviews.

The following have been scanned.

Consumer Reports
June 1990 - LS400 vs. Q45, BMW 535i, Lincoln Continental
November 1993 - LS400 vs. Q45a, Cadillac Seville STS, Jaguar XJ6

Motor Trend
January 1994 - LS400 vs. Cadillac Deville Concours

Road & Track
November 1994 - LS400 Road Test.

I uploaded them to my FTP server. To access, open IE or similar browser to the following link: ftp://lexus:lexus@173.48.247.222/

If anyone else has old mags of reviews, I encourage you to do the same!

Enjoy!

-Joe

sorry to hear tomtheslac. I'm trying myself with WS_FTP, a free alternative FTP Client. I'll let you know if I have success.

Ok, I got it working with WS_FTP. Click the link below

Once open you'll see "Download WS_FTP Lite". Click that link.

Create a WS_FTP folder and Download the File to that folder.

Double Click on ws_ftp45.exe, it will automatically extract itself to the folder you downloaded it into.

Then run Install, follow the prompts. When finished you'll have an icon in your start menu.

Open WS_FTP, and enter 173.48.247.222 next to Host Name/Address.

Then just click OK, and it should connect. Let me know if you still have no luck.

I have always held a place for the Q, wish i had one. CR loves both. One thing they were surprised is how slower the LS and Q got in '93 compared to their '90 test. The caddy northstar V8 had a sweet engine back then, blew all the competition to 60.

read the '90 review. as expected, the ls wins due comfort while the q's superior performance gets little recognition.

i'm sure the speed reduction of the '93 infiniti is due to changes in the transmission, not sure about the ls.

that northstar may have blown everything away to 60mph, but what it blew more was headgaskets from what i've gathered.

thanks for the scans. i'm going to check out the '93 review tomorrow. i'm interested to see if the active suspension q45a leveled the comfort field (vs. the air equipped ls in '90).

oh yes, I heard plenty stories on the headgaskets on the northstar. I recall someone mentioning in a general sense that cadillac put so much effort on the power end, but forgot to cool the engine properly, which ultimately led to so many failures.

I also had a '90 Q45 that I bought used several years ago. It was a money pit. It also
had weak timing chain guides made of plastic that went out and destroyed the engine.
I think Nissan never did recover from all the problems with the Early Q's, that they finally dropped it from their line up. It was a shame really- I drove Nissan Maxiamas and Z's for years, and they had great reliability -I still drive the Zs.
