Hi,

I have leaking both the low and high side AC valve cores leaking on a 93 LS400.

Are these valves replaceable? Assuming they are, what type/size of valves, part # or where to order from?

Does anyone know which type of Schrader valve core is used in the AC on my '91 LS400? (and are they all the same throughout?)

I'm still running the original R12, in case that matters. The high and low side ports both seem to leak a little and I'd like to replace the valve cores. I've been successful at pulling the poppet tighter, and finding the best angle to slow the leak almost to a stop. And with the caps on, nothing is detected by my leak detector, but still I'd like to fix it right.

My guess for now is "Standard". I think this is the GA1528 as shown on http://acvalvecores.com/products.html

once you vacate your system of R12, you will need to retrofit to R134 anyway which will come with new fittings. they don't make R12 readily available anymore.

I'm still running R12 with no problems and no plans to evacuate it or switch to R134a. I will replace the cores with the system fully charged.

So I still need to know which type of cores it has, in case anyone knows.

just take one out of your left front tire, they all fit.... plus yours are probably just loose... tighten them up... oh you want to know where to buy the tool?? think about it, I gave you a hint...

Not sure where to post this - 1998 ls 400. Had the comp. clutch fail, so replaced the compressor with a reman. denso and replaced the dryer. Vacuumed the system down and held a vacuum just fine. Problem is that I can not get the system to take more than about 1/2 a can of 134. Had it vacuumed, released the first can, began to fill, then just stopped filling. Started the engine, turned on AC to see if that would help, but would still not draw it in. compressor engages for about 3-4 seconds, then the light starts flashing and the compressor shuts off. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thx.

compressor shuts due to low refrigerant most likely. are you having a professional charge the system? i don't think a typical garage setup is capable of recharging from completely empty.

I was doing it myself and seems like others have posted on here that they were able to at home after compressor replacement. Have had successi in the past with a Ford after replacing the compressor. I would assume you are correct about low pressure shutting it off but would expect the suction side of the lines to draw it in.

pull another vacuum, run a bucket of HOT water, hold can upside down in the hot water while filling system.. dont burn yourself.. if you hold the can upright the freon goes in as a liquid, upside down it is a gas, the heat just forces it in the system... that is the cheap way without pro equipment..

Make sure that you have your charging hose properly oriented ; there should be a center post inside the connector that depresses the Schrader valve when you screw it on. Otherwise you will have problems getting the freon through the valve.

i don't see how you can get an R12 can to even fit onto the fittings since all shops nowadays sell R134 cans which have completely different sized fittings. they do make retrofit kits to convert your fittings.

You can still get R12, its not that hard. People here do it all the time. I even know someone with a professional R12 machine
