Default Climate / clock LCD and dimming rear view mirror problems

I've got a 1992 model. Works great except for these two minor issues.

The rear view mirror has problems only when the temperature of the inside of the car gets hot (like when I leave it parked in the sun all day). A section of the mirror simply does not change with the rest of the mirror when I push the button. When the car is cool on the inside (first startup of the day or even once the A/C has cooled the interior down), the mirror works flawlessly.

The climate / clock LCD is having the opposite issue. The clock area LCD segments (backlighting is perfect) are hard to read when the car is cool. It looks like some fluid may have leaked into areas that it shouldn't be. But once the interior car temperature heats up, it works perfectly. 100% clear and no problems.

I've searched the forums and the web, and I'm wondering if anyone else has seen these specific problems (especially the temperature dependence).

Thanks

the 1ls has been documented to be sensitive to temperature change. Tell me is your throttle much more responsive when its cold out?

Im afraid i havent experienced the mirror problem but your going to need to replace the lcd screen to fix the climate control. this is probably the single most common issue with our cars.

my mirror is the same, needs to be replaced...simple, same with the climate control lcd(ebay) although i expect the same to happen to mine since the speedometer needle is already fading, eventually the whole dash will black out and its not the cheapest fix.

Quick update:

I went to the local junkyard and picked up a rear view mirror from a 1993 LS400 (I have a 1992). The electrical connector is different to the point that it won't fit! So much for common parts within the same generation 89-94...

do research first next time, there were a lot of minor changes between 89-92 and 93-94 cars even though they were in the same generation

Thanks for the help. The mirror assembly part numbers are different. Here is a summary:

'92
GREIGE color (I guess a fusion of grey and beige)
Part Number: 87810-50010-05
Produced from December 1989 to August 1992

'93
TAUPE color (very similar to GREIGE)
Part Number: 87810-50040-K0
Produced from August 1992 to October 1994

Oh well, I'll just have to do a little splicing and wiring to get this $5 investment to work.

Check eBay for the climate control LCD. You can usually get the LCD for less than $100 and sometimes you will see sellers that will repair it for you if you send it in. I saw one a while back that provided the repair service for $70.

The mirror on my 1993 LS400 does the same thing. I have been pretty fortunate with my LCD thus far. No discoloration. I just purchased an LCD screen for my brother's 1992 LS400 on eBay and it works great.

The mirror on my 92 would stay half dark when it was set to daytime mode. Funny thing is it would changes shapes after a while. Snagged one same color on ebay for $23.00. My LCD is good previous owner had that fixed by lexus. Cluster was sent to BBReman for $65.00 got lucky there too did the ebay bid and i was only one to bid.

Default Climate LCD works under high temperature

I just fixed my cluster flicking and fuel gauge problem by replacing 3 EC's from old computer scrap. Now I am down to just tackle this climate control issue. LCD display read-out fine under long hour of sun exposure, but fade out when cabin temperature cools down. My guess is that one or two E-capacitor are faulty as well. Do you guys know which one need to be replaced. I don't think my problem is the LCD since it works under high temperature. Backlight is fine too. Your inputs will be highly appreciated. Thank you.

Finished the swap this afternoon. New rear view mirror works perfectly. But, it functions somewhat differently than my original mirror:

The OEM '92 mirror turned dark when the key was removed. The '93 mirror stays bright regardless of whether the key is inserted or not. Just an interesting thing to note (although I could have switched the wiring... could someone with a '93 model confirm their mirror's functionality?).
