I had the timing belt, water pump, tensioners etc replaced about 3 months ago. Everything seemed fine, car ran smooth. However, I have lost about 2 miles per gallon. I put in new plugs, new Lexus air cleaner, to no avail. I checked the compression and got 160 plus on all cylinders. I've talked to the mechanic and gotten nothing. I've talked to a couple of Lexus dealer mechanics and not gotten any good suggestions. The timing belt possibly being off by one tooth was mentioned, but the consensus seems to be that this can't happen without exhibiting obvious effects. The car has 140k miles and is driven fairly gently. Pre-timing belt, I typically registered 27 mpg plus (tank average) and now, 25 or less is common. Driving routes and habits are very similar week to week and haven't changed. Gas gets reformulated here in Southern California for summer v. winter, but I've had the car several years and never experienced a major mileage change like this. Needless to say, I'm pretty disappointed with this situation.

to be honest, a 7.5% decline could easily be due to gas, especially here in fickle CA.

that and the fact that 25mpg total avg (do you drive in the city at ALL??) is pretty damn high for anything other than constant hwy trips.

My car was worst, change distributor caps and rotors. I'm not sure if that model has them or coils. I'm new here, so might be the problem. My car is a ls400 1990 w/85k miles and 1 dist cap was cracked and a rotor. Check them out.

98+ 1uz engines are all coil on plug, no distributor.

you mean no Distributor Cap rotor on 98+ LS400 , am getting 20 MPG in highways, changed spark plugs recently with OEM denso plugs, but still same MPG, what do you recommend?

tried this? op's issue is exactly like mine pretty much so im gonna change this sensor asap!
