Hey,

About 2 weeks ago, a light came on in my display.



I don't know what it is because when I bought my car, it was missing the owner's manual, so I cannot look up what that light signifies. Can anyone enlighten/inform me as to what this warning light can be ?

P.S.: I think it has something to do with the brakes (specifically the parking brake shoes) but that's only a hunch Also, this weird squeaking noise is coming from the rear right brake assembly.. a stuck caliper maybe ?

It's your brake pad warning light. Your front or rear pads (at least) need to be replaced.

No immediate problem, but get it within ~500 miles.

Hmmm... I just changed all 4 not that long ago. I'll check them today, but I doubt theres anything wrong with my pads I think I have a shot rear caliper and it's giving me a warning, but not entirely sure. More help would be appreciated

the sensor that goes into the pad itself is probably faulty. your either frayed it or it broke off.

My passenger front sensor is broken, resulting in that light always being on. Anyone know where to get a replacement (no junkyards around here.)

you could always buy one from the dealer, or just short the two leads together and check the pads yourself every year.

If you are a DIY, that is the simplest remedy, pads should last 30-40K

OEM brake pads on an LS400 can last much longer than that. I had the brake pads on my 2000 LS400 replaced for the first time at just over 71,000 miles when the wear sensor triggered the dash warning. I had the rear brake pads replaced for the first time a couple of months ago during the 120,000 mile service -- the rear pads could have gone longer and the wear sensor hadn't yet "hit" but I had them replaced for my convenience rather than make another trip to the repair shop a few weeks later.

The OEM brake pads on the 90 LS we owned from new to 2003 got similar long life from brake pads -- far longer life than the brake pads on any of the expensive European cars we've owned.

Pad wear sensors for the LS400 don't cost all that much and can pay for themselves in that they can help maximize intervals between brake pad changes. More importantly, pad wear sensors can help prevent unsafe conditions when a person fails to manually monitor brake pad thickness.

There are brake wear sensors on the right side brakes front and rear on the 98-00 LS. The diagram I'm looking at shows a brake wear sensor on the 95-97 LS right rear.

The first model year for brake wear sensors on U.S. spec LS400's was 1993. I was kind of stunned when I found out the 90 LS I purchased new didn't have brake wear sensors. Having owned two Mercedes sedans (450SEL and a "cheap" 240D) with brake wear sensors, I had assumed that all Lexus cars would have them.

well i think something needs to be replaced but when i got a flat, someone disconnected the sensor while changing it. i just plugged it back in and the light went away.
