Hey guys just joined the site. I had a question maybe I could get some advice/answers. I'm going to look at a 94 ls400 lexus. The problem is the car has a severe idle problem. The guy says the car shakes violently when first started and he says when you give it gas the car wants to die. He said it just started to happen like 2 weeks ago. He said no ticking or knocking though. Never had a lexus so figured this place would be a good place to ask.


By the way the car has 220,000 miles on it.

Any ideas?

Welcome to the forums!!!
1st you should check your hoses for vacuum leaks. If you can't detect any by sight or sound, get some carb cleaner spray and spray over the hoses. Listen for a higher surge in the idle and pinpoint the hose and replace it.

me and my friend are figuring its either a vaccum leak or the tps sensor?

The only thing that sucks is that we cant really work on the car when I go to buy it, and if I go to check the stuff and get it to work the dude will probably be like oh never mind I don't want to sell it now.

But I'm thinking it's probably a vaccum leak ( maybe mass air flow?) if not a vaccum leak then what would you check next?
