Its been coming on and off for some months and doesnt seem to effect the car's performance but its hard to describe. its on the left hand side and looks sort of like a state capital building? or more of a cylinder shape with bars going through it.

any ideas?

yea thats what I thought at first but the coolant levels are ok, maybe its just malfunctioning?

probably your overflow sensor that went bad. mines bad and its always displaying even though the tank is full.

oh ok do you think if I just let it be there wont be any other problems that could come up?

prob not just check the level weekly to make sure its not going down or that theres a leak anywhere.

If its running and charging fine its likely not be this.............however when my alternator went out, that was one of a few lights which came on and stayed on until the new alternator was installed. Hopefully its not a sign of the alternator starting to go out.

Alternator going out WILL display 3-4 different signs all at the same time, every time; which will include the battery light. This one icon by itself would not suggest it. Most likely low coolant level as LI Celsior stated, or just a bad sensor (common).
