Default 99 LS w/ a slow oil leak?

Hey guys

I'm pretty sure I've got a slow oil leak somewhere, but I can't figure out where it's coming from. I haven't seen a drop-off in normal, everyday driving. Any ideas on where the leak could be?

There's a thin layer of oil around the oil pan and on back as you can see with the darker shades.

Thanks in advance.

Your best bet is to wash engine first, then look for highest wet area
valve cover gasket, including 'pucks' ; oil dipstick o-ring seal to upper oil pan , and lower oil pan seal are all common areas
less common would be cam seals
dont forget to check both ends of the p/s high press hose , by alt side and by the oil filter

looks more like PS fluid that's been there a while... though it could have happened during a very messy oil change i guess

^^Agreed,, that does look more like PS fluid than oil. Generally oil will be a heavy sludge kind of buildup on the frame of the car with the elements and dirt getting stuck to it. Are you losing PS fluid or are you def losing oil?

Agree with lextech765

My thought is check your PS fluid levels and the two in-out houses under the reservoir for build-up. It could be a oil leak or perhaps your oil filter is not sealed well. Clean it and check for the fluid migration.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I've been monitoring oil level since I discovered the situation and oil level looks fine. I also checked PS fluid when the engine was still hot and the level on the PS dip stick was where it should be. I'll have to check it when it's cold to be 100% sure.

Trukn1, I got under there, as much as I could, and touched the stuff to see how it felt. It was more liquid than sludge, so you may be on to something, i.e. PS fluid like others have mentioned.

Update: So the LS4 was due for an oil change so when the mechanic took a look at the situation, he said it was due to a bad oil filter gasket. We'll see how it goes these next few weeks w/ the new filter in.
