Default 1999 LS400 leaking trunk FIXED

Like others my trunk had began leaking over a year ago. Took off the seal, CLEANED very carefully both the dirt/mold buildup inside the seal edge (that goes over the sheet metal holding it in place) CLEANED the edge all the way around very carefully. Filled the seal edge on the seal itself with clear silicone. This was a PITA. Replaced the seal, did not push is all the way down but 3/4 or so, closed the trunk (tight fit) and let dry overnight. Next morning filled the inside edge between the seal and the sheet metal with silicone. Again PITA. Again let dry overnight.

Problem solved.

I originally did the above but not as carefully and it still leaked.

I think the design of the water flowing around the trunk itself will create a siphoning effect once the seal around the sheet metal gets full of water.

I RTV'd mine years ago as well and it helped then leaked again.
You need to replace the seal or fill it with foam to increase its seal . As the design at the side of the trunk by the lights allow the water to pool and fill up again and again.

Thanks for the tip.
No leaks yet but like all my other Toyota's of age...it is only a matter of time.
