Battery drain? Bad alternator? 96 LS4
I having some issues with my car. It seems something is draining the battery. If you let it sit two days, the battery is just about dead but will start. Car runs fine but today the radio went out and came back on then the lights dimmed and the battery light came on. I'm hoping it is an alternator that is draining my battery. I was an auto technician for over 15 years but the car is under warranty so that is why I'm not fooling with it. Is their something that is common with these years that causes battery drains? I have checked all the interior lights and none of them are stuck on and their is not aftermarket equipment installed on the car EXCEPT for the car phone which is not a factory Lexus phone but a Bell Atlantic one. Very similar to the Lexus one though. Thanks for your help.

I had the same issue. The reason for my battery drained was the power steering reservoir, hose, or something from the power steering system leaked all over my altenator. This caused the altenator to be unable to produce a sufficent amount of electricity to charge the battery.

check and clean the battery terminals. they may look clean but clean em anyway, there is a terminal sealant that claims to prevent or minimize coronation. i used it a few days ago and well c if it works. i bought a terminal cleaning kit iirc it was like $8 for terminal cleaner spray, the wire terminal cleaner itself and the sealant.

The dealer told me they see this alot with these cars if the battery is 3 years oldish and sits for a couple of days. My 84month lexus battery died after 3 years this winter bc. I didn't drive it for a week. They checked everything and said it was just the battery. I guess the car just draws alot for computers and checks, thats what they told me anyway.

A little update. I went back to the dealer not shortly after I made my post. He had his mechanic test the alternator and battery, said the alternator was good and the battery was bad so he replaced the battery. Now the battery is going dead again. I have a drain for sure and I told him that I think it is the alternator. I have checked all the lights inside the car and none of them are staying even in the trunk. I do have a power steering leak coming from the pressure hose but that is on the rack end not the pump side but I will check again. Any info would be great.
