After reading countless hours on this I decided I am going to do the 9007 bulb and see how that works. To do hid you really need a light designed for it or do the projector conversion. To much hassle. I'll post my results once I try it.

Cool. I like the recessed headlight look. You going to throw some clear corners on there too? The stock frosted ones look yucky.

yeah I read that article but I also read countless other ones and the 9007 seem like a good compromise. Maybe if it does not work I will go all out.

i've had hid's in probably 10 cars since '98, and would never, ever, go back to any type of regular bulbs. HID or nothign!
definitely buy some HId's off ebay, theyre like $52 shipped these days, plug them in and never look back. btw, you want the 9004 bulb style. you won't have high beams, but you won't need them. seriously. you coudl get the "hi/low" style,b ut they don't work that well, and the wiring is a bit more complicated.

Some states require high beams to pass the annual vehicle inspection. So you either need the bi-xenon's, or you'll have to swap out the HID's once each year for standard high/low's to get an inspection sticker.

Without starting another thread, How are is it to wire in the HID lights? I thought there was more to it then just plugging them in?

Its an easy job. On a scale of 1-10, its a 2... A typical kit comes with a wiring harness that plugs into your existing harness on the drivers side, two high voltage ballasts and one or two relays. Depending on how picky you are, it's a 1 to 2 hour job including beer breaks.

where I am at they have inspections every year. Has anyone failed inspections with hid? and has anyone gotten a ticket with HID?

thanks man, I plan on sanding down the corners to clear and rattle canning them black to match, the whole car will be a repainted a dark color so this is just a preemptive move to match.

also the lense arent recessed on purpose lol, I had to send in my glass lenses to have a mold made of them, so for the time being i cut some peices of pexiglass to fit, so far they have survived many a rainy day so itll do for now.


on topic hid kits are very illegal due to the glare they cause, however if you point them down i dont think youll bother anybody, I ran one for a couple years and i think most cops just think it came stock, like some 90s lux cars.

Tonight I was stopped at a light across the street from a guy who had HID's. He either had them adjusted wrong or it was a retrofit. Blinded me till I almost saw spots. If this is what an HID conversion will do I do not want any part of it.

you got it backwards...

if it was a retrofit it WOULDNT glare.

hid in stock non-hid housing or worse yet, fluted glass housings, will glare to all hell.

Thats what I meant by retrofit. Putting hid in a stock light meant for halogen. I did not mean adding projectors. That I would do if it wasn't for all the hassle and money

there's a difference between a retrofit (which explicitly involves using projectors/reflectors (rarely) from an OEM HID car) vs. a conversion....
