Default Gas mileage on 1st/2ng gen LS

First of all I just wanted to say hi, I'm new to this forum.

I wanted to know how big range on a tank have your LS's. In city I have 260 miles (economical ride) - is this normal??? or should be better?? On the freeway I have something about 195 miles /1/2 tank.

If my range is bad, what should I change to reduce fuel consumption???

Thaks in advance for any answers

Welcome!

This is about what I get too. In city I tank up at 1/4 and I usually have about 235-260 miles. On the highway at same point, it is about 350.

Last month I got 420miles, 70% highway and 30% city with an exhaust leak.

Do the scheduled tune up if you havent done it already. Run a bottle of redline fuel injector cleaner and clean the throttle bodies.

Thanks for replies...

I assume that my range is pretty much the same as yours...I know I have to do tune up - my spark wires are from 1990...but unfortunatelly my budget is very low at this time... good for me I can use my moms Yaris 1.0

I have already done TB and injectors cleaning. Unfortunatelly it gave me nothing... weird...

My tune-up didn't do much for milage. Installing all new O2 sensors did make a huge improvement. Now I'm getting over 24 MPG with mainly highway driving on my 1991.

Welcome to CL simcom.
I just filled up my 93LS this morning. It took 20.4 gallons
and I went 433 miles. That mileage is mostly 2 weeks worth of daily commute to work which
consists of 1/2 highway and 1/2 kind of stop n' go. Last year I drove to North Carolina
(near Ft. Bragg) and got 26 for all highway at mostly 70 mph. I am very pleased with
the mileage on this car.

so my o2 sensors may be wrong... hmm you know this is 1990 model so many things are possible... Is this also possible that my transmission is in bad shape??? I must say I hear smth from it (a kind of noise like working gear in oil), smth like bzzzzzzzzz but very quiet...I heared that in LS only engine is possible to hear but unfortunatelly not in my car. This noise is almost impossible to hear only at higher rpm's (more than 3000). On P or N there is no bzzz, but when I put in D, R or else I hear it. Especially when accelerating, starting etc...When engine is warmed up I also hear it but this is more quiet... very strange...

I think I should change my ATF fluid and filters....but 5 months ago it was changed...that is what my mechanic said...unfortunately he isn't trustworthy...so...i dont really know...I coud give my car to one of toyota/lexus dealers but this is his work... my lex will be given to his hands...so no way...

This www.lexls.com site is awsome!!!! thqanks to You I did many things myself...cooool THX one more time!!!

Sorry for my mistakes but my english is a bit rusty...I usually dont have any possibility to practice it (sometimes on web...) - I'm from Poland if someone want to know...

And one more... I dont know how but i hear water splashes under my door... I dont know how to name this part but there are rubber things which can be taken off.... there where you put a lift/ramp (whatever this is called) when you want to change tire... I took off one of these "rubbers" , made a hole and water came out... the problem is I dont know how this water get in there...some water canal might be clogged... which one???This happens always after rain....

THANKS FOR HELP!!!!

This is my treasure

I have a '95 and around town mostly in traffic I get about 325 miles on 18 gallons. (This is almost all stop and go bridge traffic here every day)I don't like running too low on gas. makes me nervious. On a recent trip to Palm Springs from Seattle, I put well over 400 miles on 18 or 19 gallons. This was with cruise set at about 75 mph. I had just had the $1,600.00 120 thousand mile tune up just before that trip.

SO I figure real life experience I get 18-22 mpg. I am a fairly aggressive driver too.

1996 LS 400 with 125k miles

We average about 18-19 mpg with plenty of stop-and-go driving. Not too bad in my book; our old Q45 only managed about 16 mpg. Of course, with premium fuel averaging $2.00+ a gallon the Lexus is still not a particularly cheap car to run.

My car is a 1993 LS with a bit over 128,000 miles.

I average about 22 MPG on every fill-up. This is about 50-50 city/highway driving.
