Default New LS400 Owner here!

Hey All!

So I recently bought a beautiful black 1991 Lexus LS400 and have a few questions. It was maintained extremely well by an ol' lady for the past 6 years and is in pristine shape. There are only a few questions I have regarding fixing minor things.

1.) The transponder key seems to be broken. Would I have to go to a certified Lexus dealer to purchase a new key?

2.) The display on the Heater/AC unit does not work. All of the functions work absolutely fine, but there is no heads up display. Is this a difficult fix? Would it be best to pull a used unit from a junkyard?

3.) My car has 155,000 miles and has had all of the routine maintenance done by the book for the past 6 years. How many miles do you folks typically get on the original engine and drive-train?

4.) For customizing my car where would be the best place to get a billet grill and different headlights?

I would really appreciate help whenever anyone has a few minutes. So far I've already learned a ton. I am sure many of these questions are found within this forum so If you could post some links that would be sweet.

I look forward to being a LS400 owner for a long time!!

I have a 95 & 96 but did not think 91 has a code hopping transponder key like the 97 or newer ones. You can get new master keys recut at Lexus dealers if you show proof of ownership (DMV reg, driver's license), it's about $50/each.

1) Probably
2) You can pull it off a junkyard but search around the forums and I think you'll be able to find a link to a certified ebay seller that creates custom LCD's that will endure the heat and last.
3) Easily another 100k if you treat her right
4) Best soruce is probably Ebay + occasional CL groub buy's. If I recall, someone was working on a retrofit kit for our 1st gen's. Might want to give the search a try since threads with headlights usually pop up quite often.

Welcome to CL!

I like the 1st Gen headlamps in the 1st Gen grill the best. And they are so polite! They couldn't get a gnat to blink from 1/2 inch away.
