Shocks/Struts what???
I need some help and advise. I have a LS400/1993. I'm told the reason the car is bouncey is that it needs new shocks or struts and thats where I have no idea of what they are talking about. I've been told the cost to replace all four would be somewhere around $2,500.00.
Can you educate me on what I need?
Thanks:

$2,500? Woah. Maybe if you have the air suspension.
Otherwise, if you do the work yourself, you're looking at about $300 for four kyb struts.
Plus strut mounts which you'd want to replace at the same time..about fifty bucks a piece, coming to a total of around $500.

^ as he said, if you do the work yourself you can get away with about $300 to $500 depending on brand, new or used, supplier, discount, etc. If you have air suspension and would like to keep it, it's going to be more money just because the parts cost more. Our vehicle has what is called a McPherson strut, which is a shock and strut in one assembly. A good way to think about it is that a shock reduces the body movement, and a strut supports the vehicle's weight.
If you haven't already, try searching ClubLexus and visit www.LexLS.com
Here's the direct link to the front suspension (non-air) http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/suspension/fshock.html
Do you know if it's a UCF10 or UCF11? If you look under the hood, on the top of the passanger side firewall. If it is a UCF10, no air=$$, if it's a UCF11, which does have air=$$$$.

3UZFTE, Thanks for the info I'll check tomorrow, the car is a 93 so its probably UCF10.
Are the rear struts easier than the front? Didn't see and instructions for rear.
Thanks again.
