1999 LS400 Timing Belt Replacement
Hi,
Looking to buy a 1999 LS400. I asked the dealer about the timing belt, has 143,000 miles on it. Excellant shape. He said it was done by the guy who traded it in. I wanted to see the paperwork. I walked ou, got called back. They will get the paperwork. He wanrted 13,990 for the car. I'm getting it for 10,900, not even sure thats a good deal. Cars appears to be in excellant shape. I drove it, straight as an arrow even when braking. Please send advise.
Thanks
Bill

$10,900 is quite high but it's from a dealer afterall. I would hope for that price that the car would have gone through the standard reconditioning process and has had the front and rear bumpers repainted, etc.
Here are the specs for the 99 LS: http://www.lexus.com/contact/pdf/1999/1999LSspecs.pdf Alter the year (1999) in the URL in both places if you want to see specs for other model years.
Be sure the car has the options you want since it is not cost effective and often impossible to add them later. You can verify that that the car has HID headlights by "D2R" being on each headlight lens.
Most people think the optional navigation system on the 98-00 LS400 is pretty bad -- I didn't consider any cars with nav when I bought my 00 LS400 in 2003. Air suspension is another can of worms -- probably not worth considering a 99 LS400 with it.
Lastly, it has become impossible in the past year or so to get the optional Nakamichi radios repaired although Lexus might still have some rebuilt components available on an exchange basis -- I hope the car you are considering has the standard Pioneer system. Nakamichi went out of business and the current company is Nakamichi in name only.
