found a 90 LS on craigslist and i bought it!! 56k bad idea
hey guys. I found a kinda rough LS on craigslist. The owner told me it had bad cats... i was suspicious.
I went to go check it out and besides some rough(oxidized) paint and a miner fender bender, the car seems clean. Also it had the kinda rare cloth interior. I would have preferred gray to blue, but cloth is awesome either way.
So i checked the ignition coil pack by unpluggin one and the other. well when i unplugged the first one, the car couldn't catch, so i disconnected the other one and the car was the same as before. So i took one from my car and connected it. The LS purred!... kinda.
So once it started and ran relatively smoothly i was sold. i checked everything else out and the car seemed pretty solid. It did have the original spark plug wires dated 1990 by sumitomo brand instead of Yazaki. I'm pretty sure its on its original timing belt along with waterpump.
The car has 222k on it.
Well he towed the car to me today and i went to go put some gas, but now the car is boggin a bit. I'm pretty sure they fried one of the cats (no biggie i gotta parts car) but i wanted to make sure before i started takin it apart. How difficult is it to replace em?
so i know i already have alot of projects, but i think this car can be a decent beater, that i will slowly restore to good condition. I really care more about mechanicals right now. First i'm gonna make sure its runnin like a top, then i will eventually take care of the cosmetics... maybe. Suspension is loose but not clunky.
The AC is bad, but i have parts so i'm gonna try'n fix it. Honestly this car doesnt need alot of time or money to make it a smooth runner. and the cupholder isnt broken!!! woohoo!
also i forgot. the car has been parked for a while and somebody tried to steal it and jacked the trunk
interior switch won't open. any ideas guys? i need to get in the trunk.
i talked him down to $400 including delivery (70 miles) which i think is a pretty good price. its still a lexus(everything works) that will clean up pretty nicely.
let me know what yall think
Small things it will need
new radio and speakers
gauge cluster (needles wonky and below zero)
temp LCD

I love the carpet radio surround too!
Your "new" LS looks identical to the one I bought in 1990 and sold in 2003 at 183,000+ miles. Only 3 options on the window sticker: sunroof, keyless entry and floor mats. I loved the cloth interior ... comfortable and wore like iron ... was in beautiful shape after 13 years.

This is almost like identical to what mine seems like. Except mine was a 92', with gray leather. I found mine on CL, and bought mine for $400 as well. Good luck with the build and take some pictures to share your work with the forum.
