Default Adding Aftermarket Sub to car with amp; Wiring quesiton

hey,

im installing a new sub in the stock placement of the old sub, but the stock amp will not support the power for the new sub. i have a new amp just for the sub, and i was wondering where my blue signal wire should plug into to control the amp. any ideas?

Are you talking about the remote power wire that turns the amp on? you're using the stock headunit?

Just get a multimeter and probe the wires in the back of the headunit (with h/u plugged in) for one that supplies 12v when you turn the headunit on, you'll probably end up using one that has something to do with the stock antenna. Tap into that and you're good to go.

Whatever wire you use, it doesn't have to support any real load/amperage, just has to be 12v

yeah its a stock head unit. i got the amp to power on but i have some problems trying to get the signal in the amp. lol you know what the signal wires are? or the wires that need to go to the speaker input in the amp. theres just so many dang wires lol.
thanks

12+/- go straight to the battery

remote goes to 12v switched from the headunit (not sure if the antenna wire will work since it only comes on for the radio, in my ls at least).

speaker level input is for tapping into the factory speaker wires instead of using rca cables.

speaker outputs go to speaker (duh).

nak or pioneer?

*edit - nm... you can reroute the wires after the amp into the speaker level inputs. if that doesn't work well there's another (slightly more complicated) way.

i think you can get a small wiring harness that plugs into the stock h/u loom that gives you 2 preout RCA's... that'd be your best bet if you can find it. Then again, why not just replace with stock h/u

yeah ill prob end up taking the hu out to see where the wires can go. but the surprising thing is that i got pissed off at the amp and just plugged the wires into the old plug(where the old sub connected) and ran it to my baja 12" sub and it kicked. it had a descent sound but i guess that will do untill i figure out how to connect the new amp.

the wires you connected from the stock amp to the new sub are the same wires you would run into the speaker level inputs of the new amp.

the alternate way would be to get the low-level signal before the factory amp and retrofit rca plugs.

___ low level ___ [oem amp] ___ high level ___ (oem sub)
......................\___ [amp via rca].................\___ [amp via speaker level input]

does that make sense?

yep i got it working today. it doesnt quiet power up the 12'' but it was to be used on a premier 8'' 500wat. but i dont get how the stock amp made the 12'' sound better than the 300 watt amp did. oh well but thanks anyway. how i hooked it up was from the stock sub feed to the amp and from there i got it working
