Default Small Puddle Of Water Forming In The Trunk At The Bottom!

Hi,

For some odd reason, I'm getting a small puddle of water forming at the bottom of my trunk. It happens after heavy rain. When I first saw it happen I immediately sealed the rubber plug with silicon sealant (the edging of the plug), but that does not seem to be doing the trick. Any ideas of where and how this water is getting in? And any good solutions?

Because of this the underside of my trunk mat gets a little moist and there is moisture sometimes on the spare tire. When water forms there is no indication that water is coming from anywhere else besides the plug.

I've attached a photo which gives a little bit better detail.

Its a common issue. Seems the trunk weather stripping doesn't bounce back like new after a couple years and lets water in. I just unplugged that whole in the trunk until the water drained and then put it back. Keep an eye on it though.

Yeah got that on mine.

Water comes in past the trunk lid seal and accumulates in the spare wheel well. Removing that plug is actually a good temporary fix to stop it turning into a swimming pool as long as you keep an eye on it.

Replace the trunk weather stripping. It's easy to do and my trunk has been dry ever since.

You might be able to rejuvenate the rubber weather stripping as opposed to replacing it, as well. Things like Zaino tire and rubber treatment, and products like Back to Black might be all you need.

just did a search on this as i noticed moisture in my trunk. Pulled the carpet up and the spare out. Had a puddle of water in mine as well! My weather stripping is in great shape. Not dry rotted or anything?!
