I tried grounding the passenger side 9004 ground pinout but that didn't fix the problems.

I'm thinking now that the relay that comes with the kit isn't drawing enough amp's from the OEM harness, so the car doesn't think the headlights are on. This would explain why the fogs won't come on and why the high beam indicator on the instrument panel won't illuminate when the high beams are on. I think I'm going to try and find a relay that will draw more amps off the OEM harness to simulate the draw of the 9004 halogen bulbs. Otherwise I'll be returning the kit and finding a different manufacturer.

I'm glad I waited for you to order...

Do you think it would make a difference if you ordered a 55W kit?? But even if the Headlights really were both burnt out the fogs should still come on... if everything is turned on..

Would it be best to make sure there is a relay for EACH side?

I still want an HID kit.. just not this particular one anymore...

Are there any vendors here on CL that deal with HIDs??

Ok so here's what I'm looking at now...

The XenonDepot H4 / 9003 5000k Bi-Xenon Xtreme HID Conversion Kit. 35W

Regularly $499.99 on sale for $219.99..

Comes with:
2 x 5000k Laser Calibrated HID/Xenon Bulbs
2 x Xtreme HID Digital Ballasts
2 x Complete Wiring Harnesses – 1 per side
Mounting Hardware
Complete Instruction manual
1 year ful replacement warranty

Separate fuses and relays for each side.. Sounds like a very nice kit. I've heard very good things about Xenon Depot too.

($25 discount code for CL members too)

I think that kit would be a good way to go. I have a kit from them in my GX and I'm very happy with it. I'm planning on getting this same kit if my current problems can't be worked out. I like having two separate relays which my GX kit has but the LS kit doesn't. Let me know if you buy it and how it works out.

Thanks

in addition to the HID's (I installed mine, SICK) is anyone running the EBAY headlight units? Clear glass, think it might work well with HID's...

Python's running them, and they are plastic, not glass.

Unfortunately I have a 91 first gen so this kit won't fit since its made for 9003/H4 bulbs. Xenon Depot sells a 9004 bi-xenon set but the manufacturer is VOLT instead of Extreme HID and the kit only uses a single relay.

Are you going to go for it?

Is the shield on the attached pic of a 6000k bi-xenon HID bulb off by 180 degrees? The arrow is the top of the headlight. Goes in facing straight up and turns to the right about 30 degrees or so. When installed, it puts the shield at the bottom of the bulb, towards the ground. Both of the bulbs I just received in a HID kit from XenonDepot for the first gen / 9004 bulb.

Sorry to bring this thread up after quite some time, but have you managed to sort this problem out as I'm expiriencing exactly the same (1993 LS)...

Now at least I know why is it not working (high beam indication inside cluster), after 4 hours of messing around the cluster and bulbs inside it

No, never got it to work... I tried putting the standard 9004 halogen bulb back into the unused passenger side socket while still having the HID's fully wired, but that didn't allow the high beam light or the fog lights to come on either. The 9004 bulb wouldn't light up either.

I think the problem (at least partially) is that when the HID harness is plugged into the OEM headlight harness on the drivers side, it doesn't draw its power from it. It gets its power from the fused battery connection on the new harness so the high beam indicator and fog lights aren't working because there's no power draw to trigger the OEM relays. Just a theory.

I ended up putting Eagle Eye headlights in recently and I'm running the HID's with those. I was blinding oncoming cars with the stock headlight assembly's. Since I switched to the Eagle Eyes, the HID light output is better and oncoming cars aren't flashing their lights at me anymore. The beam pattern isn't too bad. Nothing compared to having a distinct cutoff line with projectors fitted, but very acceptable to me.

I'm going to wire in the fog's so they're used as DRL's. I bought a couple of H3 LED bulbs to be used for this purpose.

Jim
