Best prices for AC parts?
Hey guy's. Got a high pressure test done at a AC shop in town today for $25. They recovered .25 lb of refridgerant from my system... They say the compressor is leaking and the AC unit box. Obviously probably the evaporator core. Looking to replace the compressor, evaporator core, expansion valve, and dryer. Also thinking about taking the condensor out to flush it and flush the rest of the lines while all of the parts are off. What's the best way to go for the parts? The man at the shop said aftermarket evaporator cores rarely fit as good as OEM. For the compressor I think I want to stay Denso. How much difference longevity and quality wise is there between new and rebuilt? He has a new Denso in his warehouse for $584 and a OEM evaporator core is $446 from Carson Toyota. The expansion valve and all is minimal in prices compared to these two so I'm looking to get the best price. Saw a few reman denso compressor's with expansion valve and dryer for $350. Does anyone know if those are legit reman's by denso with denso parts? That obviously seems like a good way to go if those parts are of good quality as a Denso should be.
What experiences have yall had with 95-97 LS evaporator cores as far as manufacturers? Car has 203k and I want to fix the AC for good. I've read the Gen1 evaporator cores can come out without removing the dash. Is the same true for the 96? My genuine shop manaul say's to remove front seat, steering wheel, both airbags, rear high mounted brake light, interior side trim, dash, radio, ac controls and registers, and even the damn dash support structure. Is all of the that neseccary? Crazy! Any help from those that have been down this road to save me a little money instead of buying over a dealership parts counter would really be appreciated. Can't wait to hear if I can save some money, haha.

I want to stay away from a used compressor unless it's pretty new. No way to know that from a junkyard. I feel like if I get a used one I could be in the same boat again either instantly or shortly down the road. Looking at a reman or new. Same goes for the evaporator core. Would be kind of like buying used brake pads you know?

i needed a new compressor, the 1st time i bought one from a junk yard and it didnt even last me 2 summers. so i recently bought a remanufactured compressor for $250. imo i wouldnt go with a compressor from a junk yard becuase u dont really know how many miles and what condition its in.
