I just bought a 96 LS400 with 224K... When I first turn it on in the morning it kicks white smoke.. Not sure what it is but it doesn't smoke after that.. I have no lights on the dash thought runs pretty hard and fast!

One Possibility:
Search for Idle Air Control Valve. It's on the power steering pump and allowing power steering fluid (ATF) to be sucked into the intake manifold. Monitor the PS fluid level to see if it's going down, if so, that's the most likely source of your smoke. (although I believe the smoke should be a blueish color).
Another possibility: radiator fluid.

White smoke,, power steering fluid. Blue smoke,,,, oil leak. Most likely a power steering leak. do a little research and you wil find that it is a common problem with the LS. Check up in the stickied section on this forum under PS bible for more details.

Zeek, if it's white smoke, thats an easy and inexpensive fix. My "new to me" 95 was doing the same thing and thanks to the thread on here called the, Steering Bible..my indi Lexus mechanic solved the problem and didnt charge extra since he was doing a full tune up. NO MORE SMOKE. Now Im on to finding an inexpensive fix for the next problem.. a leaking rack and pinion.
Does anyone know if a leak can be repaired or does the rack and pinion have to be replac with a new or rebuilt unit?
Thanks
bryan
