searched and only saw jamiezx's post from 2001...

friend bought my LS and we put new pads on it... both calipers were sticking out of nowhere so i went to change the brakes... the rotors were chewed up and there was NO pad left on the drivers side... no biggie we'll just put new rotors and calipers

fine... whatever, right? took it for a test drive and the pedal slowly got firmer and firmer... then a short freeway run and as i'm pulling onto my street the car is slowing itself down... no brake input. the calipers are sticking once again.

master cylinder? proportioning valve? its just the fronts... rears are fine.

needless to say i am ****ing pissed spending a tuesday night "fixing" his brakes only to have them start sticking again. any ideas guys?

oh, i also checked the slide pins and they did not seem to bind. tomorrow if i feel like messing with it i'll pull them all the way out, clean / sand them down to a smooth finish and re-lube them to see if it helps

If it is not the calipers since they are new , it may be an abs issue.

the drivers side seemed hotter than the pass side... the drivers side also had more wear when i pulled the pads off. but it wasnt pulling to one side. very strange.

he reported before i worked on it that sometimes it'd release the grip and sometimes it wouldnt. very random....

try putting the car in neutral and letting it coast, might just be driveline lag.

same problem here, my driver's side brake pads wear faster, i need to change the caliper.

dude, by the time i got the car to my house and tried to move it closer to the curb i had to go half throttle to get it to pull itself against the brakes.

I suggest greasing the slider pins with the proper grease that's used for them. also, bleed your brake system as air on one side will cause that side to remain open while the other side without air will bind harder with the same force on the brake pedal.

im going to clean to slide pins tomorrow, but i checked them before i put the new calipers on and they moved very freely.

i bled the brakes extensively... new calipers means you gotta bleed them quiiite a bit

I had a similar problem with a different vehicle of mine. Went to change the rotors (thin and warped) and the calipers starting sticking when we went for a test drive. Same exact thing happened. Check for trash in the brake lines right by the caliper. There's a way to check if it is those, but I honestly don't remember.

If it is not the sliders as they are new , possible a hub is worn causing it to heat up and bind.
Check for play in the hub .
Also it may be an abs module failure causing the line to lock up.
Flush the fluid in that line by pressing the brake until the piston is about to come out , then press it back in a few times.

i am 99% sure it is the master cylinder not letting fluid come back into the reservoir.

i drove it around the block 2-3 times to get the brakes sticking and pulled the car into my driveway. with a brick about 8" behind each rear wheel, the car idling and in neutral, i loosened the brake fitting for the front brakes and as the fluid came out both front brakes released and the car rolled back down my driveway, settling on the bricks.

new mc comign intomorrow at noon... so $112 and we're good to go. woot.
