Default alternator question

im looking at getting a high output alternator for my 93 ls400. Im gonna be running a 3000w stereo setup, and need a stronger alternator to power the 2 batteries im gonna be using. Im wondering what year alternator will fit in my car?

How about having some patience and giving people more than 2-3 hours to comment.

any one that bolts up and works with the belt arrangement

im not aware of lexus changing the alternator too much between the years...

lextreme does have an upgraded alternator for sale on their site. It's a 140 amp unit i believe.. Another route is to go to an alternator repair center and have them rewire a higher output unit shouldn't cost more than a new factory alternator.

imho i don't think a cap. will help/benefit a sound system. What you should do is what they call it a big 3/ground kit and that will be more beneficial than a cap.

6 1/2 speakers are better than 6x9s as well.

imo, i dont think capacitors are good to use. It puts more strain on the alternator because the alternator is having to charge the battery, and the capacitor to give out the correct power needed. With our stock 100amp alternator, its a lot of strain to do all that.

Im gonna be running a sundown saz-3000d, 2 kinetic batteries, and a 15" fi btl. System will be pushing 3000+ watts.

Any idea if i can use a alternator from a 95 on my 93?

no. i need at least 180+ amp. i guess if 140 is all i can get, then it will have to do. I just know how crucial it is to have enough power to pound the ground. If i dont get a good constant flow of energy, than my sub will only hit 3000w on the first second of bass, and then drop down to maybe 2000w-.

On top of that, clipping my sub and amp of the power its needing isnt going to make it last longer.

big three is a MUST if running more than 1500+ watts, or higher amp alternator. stock electrical is probably 4-8 gauge wiring.

You could also use a alt off a Land Cruiser/LX470, but you'll need to make a round to oval adapter if your LS uses the round plug for the ignition/field sense/lamp connections.
