Oh my goodness,, the search patrol is gonna hang you. LOl!!! Before they get you, the answer to your question is yes; regular suspensioncan be put on the car. First gen (or any gen for that matter) air suspension is a very expensive replacement so it is common for people to replace them with regular suspension. As for what to replace with, depends on the ride you are looking for.

Stock ride- OEM springs and struts (can use KYB-GR2 aftermarkets as well)
Lowered - 1",,H&R springs with KYB struts (well close to stock ride,, little stiff,,little
wheel gap)
Tanabe DF210 springs along with KYB
Tokico HP blue shocks can be used in these applications as well. Ride is really mushy IMO. Personally don't like them.

Eibach was making springs for our cars, but I don't think they make them any more. Need to check.

Or you can go the coilover route and get Megan coilovers. They are labeled for the 95 and up but were originally speced and designed for the first gen. This will allow for all kinds of adjustability, lowering, and such.

Would there be an issue using 18" tires with the H&R/KYB setup?

That is the setup that I am currently, and have been on, for 2 years now along with 235/40/18 (change coming soon). No issues with rub at all. Will bottom out if you hit dips really fast and hard tho (rarely happens). Ride is a little stiffer than stock but still very comfortable.
