Default Adjusting Shims for Proper Valve Clearance

I am not up to attempting this myself but wanted to hear from the more mechanically inclined as to how big a job this is & what does it cost?

Shims are $5 each & an UZ-FE has 32 total.

I paid 800.00 dollars to have the dealer do the valve ajustment I tried several shop and they wanted nothing to do with the valve ajustment due to all the different shims needed to ajust the valves correctly. I had Tustin Lexus do mine here in Southern California also the tech found a ton of carbon in the intake system and cleaned it out making the lexus run so muuuuch better. It take around 6-8 hours to do the valve ajustment and doing it correctly it is worth every dollar I spent I didn't like the price but my valves were so noisy and they had to replace 9 shims at 200,000 miles. I was told by the tech that all lexus ls400 will build carbon in the intake system and it should be cleaned out about every 100,000 miles. He also cleaned out the mass air flow system and I am getting 23-25MPG now as before I was getting 19-22MPG I also used Lucas fuel injecton clearner with double the amount for the first 2000 miles and now use just a bit every third tank and the car seems to run great. I know a guy who went 568,000 miles in his 90 lexus and lexus is now showing the car in Utah so they are worth fixing. THERE IS A STORY ABOUT A GUY IN SAN DIEGO CA WITH OVER 1MILLION MILES ON HIS LEXUS WITH THE SAME ENGINE NOW TRYING TO FIND HIM AND HAVE PUT HIS REPORT ON THE BLOG.

A HUGE PITA to do - but the job is made easier by pulling the exhaust cams for access to the shims.

I used Snap-On tool YA-8159 or something like that for the valve adjustment tool set. Measure everything twice, and you can switch used shims around to cut down on the amount that you need to order. Took me 3-4 days with delays.
