suddenly no power steering at all
Last Saturday when i was cruising about 40mph on highway, i suddenly floored it to overtake a BMW530 and a truck ahead. rpm went up to around 4k max. after taking over just few minutes, i felt my steering wheel like heavy rock. no power steering at all, while everything else worked normally
i stopped the car, restarted engine, still no steering power. i got to destination, tried all my muscle to park the car properly. I then opened steering fluid reservoir while engine was running. fluid stayed like pool still water, no sign of the pump running.
I left it in parking area and enjoyed the beach until next morning. i started the car, and to my surprise, the power steering is back as if it didnt have any problem before.
2 days from that, issue hasnt come back.
Now, what could be the issue and what should I check?
thanks guys

I have a 94 LS400 and it does this sometimes when I exit a freeway or usually when I am turning and it is cold outside. I have been told that it is the screen at the bottom of the power steering pump that gets clogged up from time to time. Mine usually goes away after I have made the one turn where it happens. But should be cleaned or you may end of needing a whole new pump. Haven't done mine but thats what I have been told. Don't know how much it costs but remember something like $100-$200 versus whole new pump replacement at $3 or $400 plus. Good Luck. Would like to hear how you fixed it if you do. THANKS
