The few times I've seen an LS400 with red/clear tails I thought it was an ES300.

One reason that red/clear tails may be less available for the 98-00 LS400 is that substantially fewer (51,022) 98-00 LS400s were made than in 95-97 (63,025). Another reason is that a higher percentage of 98-00 LS400s are likely to still be in the hands of older and original owners. Old farts like me aren't very likely to make this kind of mod to a car -- usually it's the "kids" that do this. As the 98-00 LS ages and more of them fall into the hands of young owners, perhaps the availability of mods like you want will increase.

Don't you think the OEM tail lights on my 00 LS look nice? I can hardly see any of that amber you seem to think is so awful.

I think the red/clears look nice,

but unless you want to spend hundreds upon hundreds for a JDM set you're just going to be disappointed when they start to leak and condensate.

Look on eBay Motors for a cheap set.

there aren't any generic 98-00 RCR tails on the market. only ones you will find will be minimum ~$350-400+shipping from japan.

but JP wasn't necessarily the innovator on the idea of RCR Tails....

iirc it was more along the lines of "don't support companies who knock off other company's products"

I hate my orange too. Kansas' pic is deceiving since the tail lights are on. Here is my disgusting horrible tail lights, with the reds off.

Yup I am aware of the different tail lights. I am **** enough to tell the difference as I see different LS on the roads. Then again, I am a total car geek. To me the 98+ also has too much orange. Then again, sir, different strokes for different folks.

I will get a sex change operation, before I buy cheap ebay crap for my car or house.

I am not a 15 year old driving my car at 130mph with no seatbelt and check engine light on.

Been good brotha, hope all is well with you.

OK, ryanSC300lover,

Here is a photo of the rear of my 2000 LS400 with the taillights turned off during daylight hours. What is the big deal with amber turn signals? Why do you dislike them so much?

I think clear rear turn signals on an LS400 look garish and out of place -- particular since so many of the aftermarket tail lights are of such obviously poor quality. The OEM LS400 tail lights look integrated and classic and are of very high quality. Besides, recent studies are showing that clear rear turn signal lenses with amber bulbs are less visible and less safe than both amber lens and red lens rear turn signals due to a phenomenon call "sun phantoms". You can find some of these studies at http://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/handle/2027.42/13914 -- beware, the documents are of a scientific nature. It is certainly ironic that clear rear turn signals have become a fad on newer cars.

I see junk aftermarket tail lights on "ricers" almost everyday and often notice that the tail, brake and turn signals on them are barely visible. Why people want to take chances with their own safety is beyond me.

Can't you see I'm trying to motivate him to spend and stimulate the aftermarket community.

I dunno how the quality is on the CrossRoads tails. At $350 or so, it is 1/4 of the JP's. Those JP's tend to end the discussion most the time.

Fictional discussion:

I got some of those RCR's off eBay...made in China but the ones from Taiwan are nicer. With a bit of silicone to seal the lens...sandpaper to shave the casting down they went in fine. A bit of gap but some foam weather seal from Home Depot filled it up.

JP tails...

Amber lights look great. On top of that they are functional and stand out when changing lanes at night or during day!
