Default AC Compressor Question LS400

I installed a new ac compressor a couple of years ago in my LS400 and i was wondering should i add compressor oil? I don't use the ac very much and i'm looking for preventative maintainence...The fact that i don't run the ac alot = add oil...Not sure about this..any suggestions/advice appreciated. I do need to add the fact that the system has been changed from R12 to R134.

Bradster,

Someone in the business had an excellent post on this subject & the described the equipment needed to determine what your current oil to refrigerant ratio is.

I have read other post that claim that the 10PA20C compressor requires more oil than it usually comes shipped with & this can be very detrimental to its operational longevity.

Most people with older vehicles have added 134A or R12 over the years but few remember that their oil ratio is declining over time.

I added some BG Frigiquiet II (comes in 2 oz bottles) to the system of my original 94 LS400 with 203,000 miles not long ago. I had the same worry as you.

Search for the post from member " BCP43002" around 07/2019/2008

Here is some info from Nthach in the maintenance forum concerning oil requirements for a 10PA20C compressor:

"IIRC, the factory calls for 4oz of oil into the compressor. The total factory fill is 6.5oz, I did 8-9oz oil POE100 into my system with 6oz into the compressor/2oz into the dryer/rest into the system".

I added 4 oz of Frigiquiet II to my system that I suspected was low on oil.
On at least 2 occasions refrigerant had been added without oil.
