I am looking for tires for my father's 93 LS400 and was wondering if you guys had any suggestions. He has the standard 15" rims and just wants something with good traction. I have Yoko's on my GS400 and find the traction to be very good. Just wondering if there were any other thought?

Michelin, Bridgestone, Road Hugger are good choices. I'm sure there are others.

I used to have Yoko's on a car that has passed into another life (God Rest it's Soul) and was never happy with them. When I changed to Bridgestones I was much happier.

93 LS400 should have 16" rims. I think the tire size is 225-60-16, check the tire size on your father car again. If it's 15" you have a 90-92 LS400 rims.

Check BFGoodrich g-force KDWS out, i think it's a good tire for the price. Since you live in DC area, check on priceclub to see if they sell them.

If you want good price and outstanding performance and superquiet tires, go for the Yokohama AVS db. I have them in my LS. Check out www.tirerack.com for the ratings/prices.

Another good choice is Dunlop SP5000.

The AVS dB is a good choice: Had it on my 98 LS4 for a few months now and the tire is all it claims to be: very quiet, great in the dry, fantastic in the wet! They are a great value for that speed rating. It has slightly stiffer sidewalls, so marginally quicker response.
My only complaint is that I'm seeing a drop in the mpg compared to the original Turanzas - about 2 mpg less. This could be a function of the differring circumferences of the tires though, hence fooling the trip computer.

ive had terrific luck with Goodrich comp t/a's on my 92 SC400. They are terrific in the winter also!

Well, I have the Dunlop SP5000s 225/60-16 W rated (168mph). I reviewed them at Tire Rack and based on the price and features I bought them. I replaced the SP4000s that were on the car.

I am not pleased with this tire. It has the same charactaristics of the 4000s... poor straight line tracking. One of the other members here reported the same. I bought my LS as a certified car and the 4000s were on it. Car was never easy to drive straight and I thought it was just the geometry but many assure me that is not the case. Now with about 10000 miles on these 5000s they are out of balance possibly slightly out of round. I hate to replace them already but am giving serious thought to it.
