Location of amp in '96 LS?
Can anyone tell me where the Amplifier for a 1996 LS 400 is located? All sources say mine is bad. Lexus wants about 850 dollars for a replacement. I have found one place that will replace it for 350.
Any suggestions on this problem?
I got up one morning and my Radio/CD Player didn't work. The LCD lit up and the Antennae operated but no sound.
Also, anyone know how to get the front cigarette lighter assembly out?
I appreciate your help.

I was thinking that the amp on a 96 LS is under the front passenger seat like it is on my 00 LS - run the seat all the way forward and take a look. The amp on my 00 LS was easy to remove and I did not have to remove the seat. I needed help putting it back in though - a friend had to guide the front bracket on the amp into place from the front side of the seat while I worked from the back.
I had my 00 LS radio repaired by a Florida company - their website is http://www.carstereohelp.com/
They were quick and fairly priced. "Bob" who runs or owns the company kept me informed on the progress of the repair -- absolutely first rate customer service.
BTW, my 00 LS Nakamichi lost the right side channel -- I thought the problem was with the amp but it turned out to be the head unit.

I just checked my car -- the amp and its plastic cover in my 00 LS appear to be identical to the one illustrated on the Factory Car Stereo Repair, Inc. webpage for the 95-97 LS.
The key to removing the amp without removing the seat in my 00 LS400 is to run the seat all the way forward and then elevate the rear of the seat to the maximum height. After you remove the two screws holding the plastic amp cover and the cover itself and then the two nuts holding the amp to the floor , simply pull the amp to the rear to remove it. Oh yeah, you've got to unplug the connectors before you remove the amp.
Reinstalling the amp is a bit more difficult with the seat in place and I had to have a friend press the front taps on the amp downward so that they slid into the indentations in the floor pan as I pushed the amp forward from the rear. Reinstalling the amp will require that the front passenger seat be slid backward enough so your helper can see the indentations in the floor pan.
Removal of the amp is about a three minute operation and reinstalling it takes about twice that long. Of course I've done it several times and it has gotten pretty easy.
It is possible that the front passenger seat of the 95-97 LS doesn't elevate as much as the the front passenger seat of the 98-00 LS or that it doesn't slide far forward in the "limo mode" like 98-00 LS does. If not, then you may well have to remove the seat.

i have a question.. doesn't the amp only power the sub? the speakers are powered by the head unit (i think that's what it is in the ucf10).. so wouldn't that mean everything BUT the sub would be functioning still?
