It should take an average person less than 1 hour to complete this. It's worth it though. I'm going to take a picture of my sensor to show you how far gone it was.

Thermo Time Switch
The Coolant tempurature is located on the front left top of the motor. you have to remove the all the plastic pieces from the top front of the motor. The far left is the coolant temp sensor...to the right of that sensor is the one wire temp sensor for the tempurature guage. There is a large sensor around these 2 sensors screwed in an angle from the front of the coolant jacket...this is the thermal time switch.

Certainly this mpg info & improvement is dependent on the vintage of your LS.
A finely tuned UCF-10 model is not going to get the mpg an LS430 is capable of. My 94 LS is certainly under 19 mpg in the city.

i cant believe i never found this thread when looking for gas mileage issues. glad it popped up here before i bought 2 main o2 sensors. im getting 18-19mpg almost all highway. leaned out the maf and made no difference. im gonna try to change this sensor this weekend and see how it does next week. i drive ~80 miles a day.

bought the sensor friday and put it in saturday morning. i couldnt beleive how much crap i had to remove to get to it. all the plastic covers over lap each other. anyway, took about 20-30 min from start to finish. once it was in i went for a test drive. well, it instantly seemed to run better. there used to be a slight hesitation sometimes at ~2k rpm, but i havent felt it since changing the sensor. as for gas mileage, idk. im going to fill up 2marrow morning and reset the trip computer so i can get an accurate reading. 90% of my driving is interstate, so im hoping for the 25mpg range. ive been at 18-19.

williamb82 have you changed all 4 oxygen sensors?
i can't wait to see how much MPG will be getting, since am planning to do this also soon!
For me i drive 85 MPH with cruise all highway i get 19-20 MPG
report back with your MPH/MPG .
User manual says that using 5W-30 engine oil will also increase fuel mileage, any one who noticed this?
