Cool Ls400 audio setup thread

I was wondering if we could start an audio thread that we could stick at the top? In this thread members could share there audio setup that is specific for the Ls400. I don't know if the first and second generation share the same speaker size. In this thread we could state whether there was a major modification to the speaker boxes or it was a easy fit replacement. Our sweet rides are 18+ years old and the audio technology has improved over the years. However, the stock system is nice! We will be slowly replacing the audio system due to wear and tear. I had to replace my sub woofer recently and after reading some great info on this site I found a great replacement.

Audio setup:

Radio: Factory (Pioneer) with 6 disk changer. Going to do the aux in mod soon. Thanks Puredrifter for the set up! http://www.clublexus.com/forums/lexus-audio-video-security-and-electronics/269156-how-to-build-and-hardwire-an-auxillary-input-to-oem-stereo.html

Subwoofer : Rockford Fosgate P2D48 @$100.00 (wired for 2ohm!) Fits perfectly using the plastic speaker spacers from old sub. This thing kicks!

Door speakers: Still good but looking for replacements (don't want to mod the speaker boxes) do they make 4.5" replacements?

no problem but most people here dont do very much audio past a headunit and/or subwoofer...

the rockford fosgate is a free-air sub i hope....

and just mod the damn speaker boxes, 4.5" speaker selection is damn limited compare to 6.5

I think LS400 sound system is pretty decent as it is, but it does require a new headunit, the stock unit is too ancient. As far as subwoofer and speakers, well they arent the greatest by any means, but LS400 is a very quiet car, so the stock system happens to sound pretty well.

i have 5.25" diamond audios in my front door. just trimmed teh stock enclosures. i'm actually going to make an mdf panel though to mount them to, because it would firm up the midbass up front.

bolted in a double din JDM kenwood head unit and made plastic trim pieces to fill in the holes.

2 diamond audio amps in the trunk, one for the front door speakers and one for hte 2 12" pioneer subs in the trunk.

Default Head Unit Install

Picking up my 90 tomorrow.

It doesn't have a CD player. Anyone got installation pics, instructions or ideas where I can get a dash kits available for single din units? Gonna throw in an alpine. Is there a stock amp the I need to get out of the way?

thanks in advance!

I put 7 inch speakers in the front door in a 2LS by cutting the speaker box.
Have to hard wired the new head unit.

Two amps in the trunk, one powers the front speakers, another powers the IB sub. The rear OEM speakers are powered by the Head unit. Most of the time I faded the rear speakers.

I have a 12" Infinity Sub in a box I built in the trunk and it's powered by a JL amp. It adds a lot more thump than the stock sub. I'm still using the factory Nak and speakers. Also have added a Sirius radio to the mix.

I have done full audio systems on almost all of my cars except for this one and I always do the work myself.
