Question Recommend me a replacement subwoofer for my 1991 LS400

The subwoofer in my LS400 has actually been blown for years but now I'm ready to replace it with a new one. I'm not really sure what to get. Everything audio related in my LS is stock.

Default Subwoofer

A I have the factory one out of my 96LS there is no problem with it. I'm not using it. Yours for $20 bucks. I replaced all the factory speakers in my LS just cause I wanted a better sound. But the sub is fine.

Will a 96 work in a 91? Pioneer/Nakamichi issue also not addressed.

I'll definitely take it provided it will work in my 1991. Anyone know if it will work in the '91?

Surely someone on here knows whether or not Pioneer/Nakamichi are compatible. I just took my current subwoofer out and looks like all of the foam is missing. Can I just refoam it? Or would it be better to get a new one?

Cool I just replaced my subwoofer with a Rockford Fosgate

I also had my subwoofer go out in my 1990 Lexus Ls400. I went to a local audioshop and they 1st suggested a 8" Sony explode (4ohm). I put it in and did not like it. I went back for an exchange. I read on these sweet forums that I should replace with another 2ohm subwoofer or I will only get 50% of the bass from it. I put in a 8" Rockford Fosgate last night and I couldn't be happier. This sub is nice! I would highly recommend it for a replacement! The model is: Rockford Fosgate P2D48. My local store charged me $120. I just googled this model and found it at this website for $54 plus $12 for shipping. Here is the website:

http:www.cartronixplus.com/templates/detailnf_price.cfm?zq=55890740&uas=N&globaldesc=na&rnumb=1004&wherefrom=SEARCH&whichord=672656&department=ALL&class=N&special=R&sold=N&nextrow=Rockford%20Fosgate%20P2D48%204%20ohm%20SWp2D48&prevrow=Rockford%20Fosgate%20P2D48%204%20ohm%20SWp2D48&nextprev=0&subclass=ALL&subname=na&pagename=Online%20Store%20%3E%20%20ALL%20%3E%20

Rockford Fosgates website:

hovering @ $100 which is well worth it. I hope this helps for members looking for an replacement. Note: In order to get this speaker to be two ohms you have to connect the two voice coils together before hooking it up. For example: positive to positive and negative to negative, then connect your wires to either coil connection. This speaker has two voice coils to hook up. The manual that come with it will show you a diagram. Extremely easy!

My rear sub was dead,

I replaced it with a 10inch (yes they do fit) Alpine type R sub (Idealy you do what a sub designed for a free to air / infinit baffle operation) It did add little more depth to the music (might be all your after) but was still lacking. So I added an aftermarket amp (using factory wiring, took a while to work that out haha) made a improvment but still was not good enough

So I have now got a single pioneer 12inch sub boxed in my boot wired into the aftermarket amp, also added an aftermarket pioneer head deck for more control over the tone. (Still all using the factory wiring, I didnt wanna have to run rca leads etc... these cars are a pain to pull apart as im sure most of us know.)

Now it pumps!!! I can finally hear the base line in my music (not I don't listen to rap or techno, just good old blues music)

And unlike other cars, the boot doesnt rattle stupidly. (infact it did when I was using the parcel shelf sub, was to close to all the air con stuff)

Hope this helps.

Smile Yes it can be a 2ohm

Check out the manual for the Rockford Fosgate. I am having troubles trying to link the picture to this forum. Check out page 5 it is the first wiring configuration. http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftec..._P2Sub-MAN.pdf

Keep the old sub when you do the install. Take apart the plastic spacers on both sides of the bezel of the old speaker and put them on the new one so the speaker will sit perfect on the rear deck. I hope this helps.
