air assist rear shocks and how to install
I own a 1995 ls 400. Recently, with 235,000 miles on it, i have been experiencing some mechanical failures. The lastest is the passenger side rear air shock. I have searched the internet and have had limited success in finding a rebuilt unit. Any suggestions? Also i would like to find information detailing the removal and installation of the shock. Any suggestions on where to find this information?

id suggest checking a local junkyard in your area. a brand new air strut from the dealer it upwards to like $1000. if a junk yard doesnt have one, try ebay... they are rebuilt units that sell for around $300 or so. are you sure its the air strut? most of the time, it is the air strut.

I certainly wouldn't buy rebuilt junk off ebay, but then again, you get what you pay for.

air assist strut
In my exhausting search for new or rebuilt over the internet i have came back with the idea that i may be best off completely replacing the current air system with a new coil kit. I checked on the other components of this system and found out that a new dryer is $900+, a new compressor is $2000+ and who knows what else may need to be replaced in time. I have seen the conversion kits priced around $600.00. My concern is if i'll have the same smooth ride that the air system has and what is the best conversion kit to use. Any suggestions? The other question would be if this conversion is a simple process and if the only thing i need to do with the lines is cap them off?
I have called several salvage yards and they all tell me that they rarely have adequate supplies of the air struts and none of them could refer me to a rebuilder. I even went on line through a national parts locator and had the same results.

I did appreciate you directing me to that web site. I did see there products already and did find seen another site that offers the exact same air strut for $246.00. Lifetime warranty, free shipping etc. My issue is not that i can't find a new or rebuilt strut. My question is how cost affective is it to replace this strut knowing that over time i will be replacing all of them plus a dryer and compressor. What i really need to know is if there is anyone out there that has converted to coil/strut, how the ride is and if they could recommend the best conversion kit to use?
