I am going to give you the benefit of a doubt & go ahead and assume that you are more interested in the CF look than you are in trying to save weight.
Your best option is to find a talented air brush artist & have him paint it to look like carbon fiber. That is quite commonly done.

You can also overlay the metal hood with layers of cf instead.
I would spend $600 for a cf Hood , i would paint most of it .It would be about saving weight as the highest point of it.

Well.... i think the CF hood looks good on sportsy cars, not cars like the ls. I WOULD however, do this to save the weight. Think about it. The LS4 is a BIG car, with a BIG engine, hence a BIG hood. That hood is made of steel, and weighs A LOT. CF would drop a lot of weight, get you better performance, and give you better MPG. I know a guy who put a CF hood on his 05 explorer and got 1.5 more mpg just from the hood alone. And i think the look could be pulled off with a nice paint job.

right......don't get me wrong, I like CF. I build R/C nitro vehicles with CF parts and chassis if they make them. Mostly race cars. Just wouldn't look right on a LS unless it was a color match. Now that would be cool. Just not the two tone look. Everyone has their opinions.

your friend's explorer has everything else against it in the mpg department, high CD, low gearing, and a thirsty motor. the LS is damned slippery, not NEARLY as thirsty, and geared for the highway.
