Welcome to CL. I had a long day and am too lazy sadly to go out in the garage and look in my factory manual

1.4 quarts is recommended for pre 1995 though. The common method is to fill it to the bottom level of the fill hole. Not sure if it is 1.6 Quarts or 1.8 Quarts.

Just get two quarts of gear oil and fill until it dribble outs of the fill hole.

Having just changed my differential on my 92. It took 1.5 quarts from BONE DRY. As the others have said, just fill it until it starts to dribble out of the fill hole. This will be enough.

Also I would jack up the car both on the front and the rear end so the car is more leveled. You can go at least 0.2 quarts below recommended dosage just by having the front of the car on the ground.

Btw does it matter if you overfill, like when the rear end is up in the air and the fronts are on the ground?
