Default LS 400 1993 audio system (Pioneer)

Hi,

I'm changeing all speakers, sub, headunit and amplifier.

But i'm a bit lost.. I was told that since my car hasn't got the Nakamichi I will have to rewire wires from speakers to the new amplifier. Because the Pioneer system doesn't have an external amplifier that powers the speakers, only one for the sub. Is that true?? Is the speakers really powered by the standard headunit in the Pioneer system..

Thanks in advance

Yes, the Pioneer head unit in the 1993 LS powers the four F/R mid's and the two tweeters.

One thing you may want to consider is a salvaged/refurbished 1992 Nakamichi, if you can find one. It is a straight drop-in for the 93 LS and is a much better sounding and long lasting unit than the Pioneer.

I bought one a year or so ago for ~$200 and it has worked great, including the cassette deck!

Okey.. But the Nakamichi has an external amplifier for the speakers besides the headunit itself. Did you also get that?

But I need to get a newer headunit because i want bluetooth, harddisc for music ect..

The 1992 Nak has internal amplifiers and is plug-and-play in the 1993 LS. Perhaps the 1993 Nak units had separate amps?

Smile Nakimichi and Pioneer Mix for Lexus LS400 1991-1994

I have a 1991 LS400 and it came standard with the Pioneer system with out CD changer option. I want to play my MP3 and XM Roady XT so I have to tether the cassette adapter with head set jack to each unit. Recently the cassette take player went berserk and now will not accept the cassette -- it keeps spitting it out. So off to the junk yard I go. For $200 US I bought a Nakimichi Head unit out of a 1994 LS400 and it was plug and play with any problems. It does have a working cassette and it came with CD controls albeit I do not have the controller in the truck as most owners do. Because the cassette adapter diminishes the digital quality of MP3 and Satellite Radio I am willing to part with my Nak for $200 plus priority mail shipping plus insurance. If anyone is interested. This unit will fit without modification any LS400 1990-1994. It does not have a security key established so hooking up is very simple and straight forward. If you want to set up a security key I suggest reading the how to guide in the owners manual or ask me and I will copy the pages from mine and forward them to you. I am going to get a Kit and wire harness and out fit my Lexus with an aftermarket single din CD player with USB and Input for Ipods/MP3 players and such, or a double din type nav system. Contact me here or check ebaY! I will have it listed shortly with all the specs.
