Cost of gas beginning to hurt! At wat point would you give her up?

Gas would have to be way higher than $5.00 a gallon for me to stop driving my car. My '98 LS gets about 22mpg on my 30 mile round trip commute - about 3/4 of it is on the freeway. So, I figure about a gallon and a half a day. I ride my bike to pretty much everywhere else around my house (I'm lucky that everything else is close by), so gas isn't really a huge expense.
Besides, I look at it this way: I don't have a car payment, so I'm not dropping $300-$400 a month on that. With that in mind, I can rationalize paying for some pretty expensive gasoline. Besides, I love the car, it's very comfortable and very safe.

Also I want to say, that I enjoy driving my car almost every time I am in it. It is NOT just A-B transportation for me. I truly admire the car every time I drive it.
So the price of gasoline will not stop me from enjoying my vehicles.

tbilisi79,
Thanks for the encouraging words. While I've now fully adapted myself to cycling to work everyday, I found other areas where I could cut back on expenses so I could still enjoy the beauty, comfort, power and security of the LS 400. I guess it becomes a matter of prioritizing certain things and I'm nowhere near parting with my car, whereas I've reduced my bar espresso's, made sure those damn movie rentals are returned on time and take pubilc transport into the city when I know I'll get punished with parking fees. Creative accounting=more time driving the LS.

funny thing about this thread is i'm here looking for a LS400 TO SAVE GAS!!! I am getting around 10-12 mpg in my land cruiser. It's killing me. I spend about $300-500 a month on gas alone.

My old SC300 got terrible mileage. 18MPG highway, 16MPG city, it would improve maybe 1mpg if I was extremely light on the gas. 2jz's are not efficient on gas for their size. My friends got the same mileage as well. I woulnd't reccomend purchasing on if you think you are going to save on gas, becasue at the very minimum you'll be getting the same mileage, if not worse. The 1UZ-FE in the LS's is actually a very fuel efficient engine compared to others of the same size.
My 99 LS gets 18mpg in the city and 26mpg on the highway, MUCH better than my old SC.
I think a lot of people need to sit down and calculate their total economic benefit from getting a new, more fuel efficient car. I just read an article today saying how people are dumping their SUV's, but because the values have dropped so much, they are upside down in their car loans (they used the ex. owed $20,000 and the trade was worth $12,000). To make up that $8,000 difference will take a good amount of time, and in most cases as long as you'd keep the car to begin with, so looking at your total economic benefit is important.
