Default Instead of JBrady or Lexkost air intake mod.

How many of you have simply added a cone to the end of the mass air flow sensor? I did the Lexkost mod back in September, today I was playing around with the intake again.

I have some leftover accessories from my previous Acura Legend sitting in a box in the shed. When I looked inside I saw one of my old conical filters. I took off the stock filter assembly from the LS, then just simply hose clamped on the cone to the end of the MAF sensor. Wow, you can really here it sucking now! Alot louder than the exposed air filter mod (Lexkost), even though it is still exposed.

I know some of you will think ghetto, but I was just looking for some more noise from the engine bay. The LS is soooooo quiet otherwise.

If it sounds like it's "sucking" more, doesn't that mean it's actually getting less air? The sound is probably just coming from more air resistance...

I personally just took off the air box cover and put a seal on the outside rim of a k&n air filter.

What Suneet said is probably correct. You're probably restricting the airflow to the engine, which isn't good...

A friends of mine bought me an intake filter for my Bday this year. It was a K/N round air filter in place of the stock one. It sounds like its sucking more, but I could sware it has decreased my reponse to the throttle. It used to be that I punched it and the car would just go, but now it seems to hesitate slightly longer.

The paper filter with the intake cover off of it might be the best way to go.

I thought the same thing the first time I read this post yesterday.

The sucking noise is simply caused by more air resistance to the filter you put in. Also due to the design of the filter that wasn't designed for the intake. (Materials and location obviously come into play here).

You don't like the fact that the LS is quiet? -- You bought the wrong car then.. that is what it is for. If you want noise strap on some flowmasters or something -- I can hardly see the sucking sound of an airfilter being a wanted, or pleasnt sound?

A lot of times, sticking a cone filter to the OEM intake tube isn't beneficial. For us GS400/430 guys, there is the RMM intake (long discontinued) that was nothing more than just a cone filter on the oem tube. Dyno has shown that the RMM intake makes less power than the stock box throughout the revband.

As for the sucking, yes it may sound like there is more air resistance, but keep in mind that the OEM box dampens the sound, which is why you may not the sucking at all. For my GS400, if I stick my head next to the ram air inlet, I can hear the sucking noise, and I have OEM paper filter too.
