I wonder if you could bake the tails and simply remove/break the orange bit and then red it out?

nope, the lens is colored, there is no orange piece inside.

Would like to transfer a complete Lexus Spec Nakamichi head unit/amp/stacker into it. Crutsty old factory pioneer unit is not working 100%
