Again I am just going to repeat others to drive it home. If you are getting your water pump done... spend the extra $ on the timing belt 'part' to get it changed. It is sort of like taking off your shoes and changing your left sock because it has a hole in it, the right one is off as well, so might as well change the right one too because you went to all the trouble of pulling those shoes off. -- The labor won't be any different, and a timing belt is only an expensive charge because of the labor to get to it.. not because the belt itself is expenseive.

The timing belt is about like buying a drive belt,.. ( a touch more, but not much)..

Let us know how it turns out.

Also to who asked about 6yrs vs mileage on timing belt. Yes, change it if you have the money, although these engines are non-interface so if your timing belt breaks it won't annihilate your engine like some cars, although it is better done before something happens. As with anything,.. time/age wears the parts very much so .

Example: You buy a 1990 LS 400 in 1990.. drive it 1month a year. In 5-7years.. you have racked up 8-9,000 miles.. yes it is still a good idea to change out the timing belt due to age/wear.

Maintenance is just that, maintenance.. Most of the time you aren't doing it on the 'brink' of disaster, but much before that.

Take care,
