As others have said, the LS is a big car and towing up to 2000 lbs is not an issue. I have a 4x8 folding utility trailer I use to tow large stuff and it works great. You can barely tell the thing is back there. The only problem I have is that it scrapes the ground sometimes when going up my driveway. Not sure how your car will handle with the drop but I would say watch out with steep transitions.

Here's my tutorial on install: http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/body/trailerhitch.html

LP--I wouldn't sweat the tranny cooler if you're moving in March. If you were doing a heavier load and in July/Aug, I'd be a little more concerned.

BTW--congrats on leaving MI.

And yes, steveski, I once towed the trailer loaded to its maximum capacity with bricks bought to build a patio.

The LS400 without a transmission cooler is rated to tow up to 2,000 pounds. With a transmission cooler, the towing weight maximum is over 4,000 pounds.

Lexus publishes this information in the owners manuals for cars sold outside the U.S. but omits it from U.S. manuals.
I'm desperate to get a tow bar on my 1990 ls400. I see hitches around for gen 2 but nothing for gen 1. Do you think one would fit the other? Thanks!

I didn't like the wimpy trailer hitches that were available so I fabricated my own for my 1998 LS 400. You can find detailed pictures of how it's attached.

Take a look under your car to see if you have the same bolt pattern.
