Needs:
oil/filter
hood struts(on order)
LED for clock gone
Speedo LED 1/2 gone
antenna not working
AC not working
2 speakers blown (replaced with new hertz speakers)
needs tires
Burned out light signal is on third brake light bulb burned out (replaced and dash light out)
Trac Lock light on
Heated seats not working. Fuse OK

Overall real happy for the amount of money invested.

Got my 94 2 weeks ago. Paid 1500. 185k. Just had ecm rebuilt, replaced #2 knock sensor, tps, and now ignition coil. Clean car though, leather, moonroof. Cd changer doesn't seem to work. Dash cluster has "the" problem that seems to be quite common. Really like this car. By the way, this forum helped me diagnose the coil problem. Thanks!

I bought my 94 LS4 from the Original Owner...A 69 year old lady who bought it new for 51K when she was 50 years old. The car was in showroom condition, all I had to do was give her the cash, 6K is what I paid and drive off. I will let the pic do the talking...did I mention it had just under 48K on it...Take a look

Purchased 1992 LS400 Nakamichi sound system with 95,000 miles for $3,999.00 sight-unseen from a used car lot in New Jersey. It had a dead tilt/telescope steering wheel in low and out position which made test drives uncomfortable. I think that was the primary reason I got it for cheap.

Have replaced one lifter bucket, new timing belt, new seals in P/S, fixed speedo needle illumination (elsewhere in forum), rebuilt the A/C compressor on my garage floor.

Will do the Yamae door lock actuator clean/repair which will make this car finally be in close to perfect original condition.

Positives 1st Gen LS:
*excellent fuel economy
*nicest looking
*best quality/craftsmanship effort on Toyota's part
*simple elegant interior

Annoyances:
lousy brake heat dissipation
poor suspension control
mediocre seat ergonomics
the above is why it is my "winter-beater":

It stacks up well against my other luxury cars as far as economy, but the old Mercedes just spanks the Lexus in the twisties . . .

Default 1990 ls400

2005 - $5500 150,000 now about 190,000.

When first got the car - road like there was something wrong with the suspension. took it to the dealer and they charged me $100 to flip the switch in the trunk. The last time I went to a dealer.
[*]One hydraulic shock went out soon after getting the LS400. Put a Strut-Master's system ($800) in it - hydraulic shocks toooo much money. [*]Replaced face plate console and electronics.[*]Coolant reservoir replaced.[*]The power steering unit leaked onto my alternator - replaced both.[*]Dreaded starter change recently - all new gaskets, injectors refurbished, vacuum hoses, etc. I know why Lexus charges $1200. Owners need to realize how brittle all the harnesses get after years on the road.[*]And periodic maintenance of the up/down gear in the steering column - just ordered a new gear from amazon of $10. (Flipped the old one around.)[*]I'm sure there is more.

Anticipate rack and pinion work eventually..

I must say its been an expensive machine to own but the engine and tranny work like a fine watch, its just all the little things that constantly wear out. I do like it and thanks to these posts I'm a much better LS400 owner.

Oh, did I mention my rather large telephone still works (no service though).

Thanks for your help.

I got my '92 two years ago when my Mazda 626 tranny blew up on me. Mom gave it to me for free with 140K on it, in excellent condition. She'd had it as a backup since '94-95. Funny thing is the gas mileage is just as good as the 4 cyl Mazda got.

I've since worn the driver's seat slap out; going to redo that after I get new rims.

I bought my 94 a little over a month ago for $1700. I'm third owner all previous service records from dealership. It has 212xxx on it. Well taken care of. Garage kept so little wear and tear on the leather. Black on black fully loaded..Emmeadiate problems was (after research CAPS Leaking from ECU). Now that it runs Prime. Will address some minor issues. Like cd changer plays but no sounds comes through. And foggy windows believe to be heater core...Speedo and tac randomly stops working. But thanks to this website and you guys on here. All can be properly addressed..

Bought my first gen 1990 back in 01 from a private seller. 167k miles fully loaded with literally EVERY SINGLE OPTION available on it. NAK stereo trac air suspension memory seats factory chromes and I had all the paperwork for it too down to the dealer invoice, window sticker, even the original temp tag. I paid $3500 for it back in 01 which I realize now was a screaming good deal. Lasted me 5 years wish I still had it.

I purchased my 1990 LS400 june 1990 and as of today the car has 92,821.2 miles and looks like new with normal parking lot dings I paid 42,000.00 new and have done all repairs myself over the years. This car has everything offered except air ride and upgrade radio, but has phone and 6 cd player. The first aid kit-spare tire and tool kit have never been used I have the window sticker and the interior is still new. You name it and I have repaired it ,replaced it or cleaned it.My car is silver-gray.The only thing I will not fix ever is temp-time gage in the radio,I can do the repair but I fell like lexus built this into the car and why should I change the only thing that has ever gone wrong with my car in 24+years hope to put more miles on her in the next 20 years then my borther gets her .The car has spent 19 years in redondo beach and 5 years on maui at my condo.I shipped her home 4 years ago and only drive her on saturday to go to the movies she lives her life in palm springs and is parked -garaged from june to november.I will try to take pictures and post as soon as posible and when you see the wheels every one loves them.I had lexus exchange the new wheels for 16 inch and to keep the warranty lexus had to ok the 3 piece wheels with I do mean 3 pieces mag-spokes-and nook offs.
