Talking New Guy.

First, I don't have an LS400 yet and I'm only a 17 yr old punk kid... My dad will buy me one on March as a summer "VIP" project car and I have to take my last years present (a turbo'd black sand pearl 2007 Scion tC MT w/ .7 on ODO when new and now has 3754.6 miles on ODO) and give it back to him so I could get an older car which will be a low miles LS400 1stgen in great condition and I had to make it look, feel, sound, and has a VIP attitude for 17grand for everything including the car.

Is it possible to make it "VIP" enough to be called VIP even though it's old with 17grand? I just want to know the stuff that is necessary for JDM "VIP" and what are the N.O.s (not N20, the no-nos.) for the car to be VIP style. I also play drums for my friend's punk band and I take my 4 piece drum set in my tC and it actually fits, I want to know if it's possible to fit a 20" bass drum, a 16" floor tom. a 12" mounted tom and a 14x6 snare drum in the trunk.

Thanks a million! And sorry for typing VIP too much...

Wait, let me get this straight, your willing to trade your almost brand new Scion for an older LS, or your dad doesn't want you to have the Scion?

I already have the tC for almost a year now and my dad even let me turbocharge it with a GReddy kit. Now, I'm just not into the stick shift jerking when you launch from 0-60MPH in 4.x seconds and the road noise from the coil-over dampers is somewhat horrible! And I can't insure 2 cars at once, so I have to give my tC back to my dad to get a comfortable ride that is safer than the tC and to keep my classmates from hatin me in a tuner car. (At least the LS400 would be much older than their late model muscle cars and trucks.)

Since you have 17K to spend, why not get a late model, 98-2000 LS400? It has 290hp/300lb, unmatched interior quality and comfort, HIDs, kick *** audio system, etc.

^^^ I saw the inside, and I want to know if you can change the CD player as easy as the 1st gen?

Although, I like the exterior of the 1stgen for being simple.

What can the 6 grand do to be VIP style? It's hard to find those model years and here in Vegas it's being sold for 13K! I may have to stick with 1stgen or go with an early SC type Lex.

Safer? Are you kidding me? Do you know how much farther we are now when it comes to automotive safety than even in 2000? I hope that isn't a key point you're looking at because an older LS400 most certainly is less safe than a new tC.

^^^ Nope... I'm just trying to get out of street racing actually. (I get tempted too much with the tC!)

So take of the mods and you have a plain jane 4 cylinder coupe. I don't see the logic in going to an older LS400...

...probably the same reason I sold my '04 Mustang Cobra to get my 1992 LS400...I was driving too fast, and insurance was real high-- i could afford it, but its nice to not be paying as much now. I'm pretty sure that TECHNICALLY the tC is considered a sports coupe, and that will drastically increase insurance, especially for a 17 year old.

He said he's gonna try to quit street racing, and thats good. When I bought my LS400, I *magically* started driving slower and safer . I get the impression that even if he does remove all the mods on his tC, he will still race it, or at least drive fast. Having a little 4 banger doesn't stop any of the kids we see daily driving like idiots, weaving in and out of traffic..

However, your tC WILL be safer... Remember, early LSs only have only a single airbag (maybe some have none? Im not sure...)... Im sure your tC has airbags everywhere! haha people often mistake a BIGGER car as a SAFER car... and thats just not the case, all the time anyways.

With that said... I would advise NOT to buy a 1gen... go for a 98+, especially if you have a dough.. and it sounds like you do.

It's still pretty darn easy... I've installed a few navi and dvd systems in 2gens... as long as you know what you're doing, and your careful not to break clips, you'll be good.

1990-1992 have a driver's side airbag.
1993-1996 have driver & passenger airbags.
1997-2000 have driver, passenger, and side (torso) airbags.

cars don't MAKE you street race.....

but whatever.... welcome!

i say go with the 98-00 idea. those are my favorite. and please don't replace a CD player, in whatever you get. unless it's CF10 with a tape player, there's no need, the audio systems are already great.

keep it clean, keep it simple.
