Default Paint estimate please 94 ls400

I am in an assigned parking spot and the people on either side of me keep scratching/dooring my car. I have many small white scratches on the passenger side and three large scratches on the drivers side. About how much would it cost to get factory matched paint?

it depends on the brand. I bought a quart of Sherwin Williams Ultra 7000 system with all the additives, reducer, etc... Over $200, not including clear coat. It just depends man.

It all depends on the condition of the paint damage. If the scratches are through the clear coat or the paint is chipped. It will run between 350.00 to 450.00 dollars per door depending where you live. If you are lucky? And it is only surface damage and no door dents. You might be able to color sand with 1500 grit and repolish the door panel. If the door is dented and the paint isn´t broken? Find a good dentless paint repair guy. He will save you hundred of dollars in paint repair. If you repaint the doors? Do your homework and find a very good paint shop to do the work. Most Lexus have 3 stage paint on them. If you car is a light color? Make sure the use a very good clear to finish your car. Or it will yellow over time. Good luck

Run your fingernail down the panel and see if it catches on any of the scratches. If it catches, it is too deep and wet sanding will just remove more material from the panel.

Some of those should be able to be wet sanded and buffed out, but the deep ones need to be repainted. And for the record...kick their *** if you catch them walking up all over your car.

The large scratches went through the clear coat I believe, but the small ones on the passenger side only scratched the surface.

To answer your question sonyman, I am in Raleigh.

Yea, leave the large ones alone, small ones you can wet sand (lil automotive car soap for some lubrication) with 1500-2000 grit sand paper and use a nice compound and buffer. Do not use wax until after all that.

Where does one buy 2000 grit sandpaper? The highest home depot has is like 800-1000...

Any auto parts store should have it, if not, try looking in the phone book/yellowpages for an auto paint retailer. They should carry 1500-2000 sandpaper.

I use 3M or Eagle brand sand paper.

You definitely don't want to use 800-1000 as it takes off a lot of material (and can leave minor scratches even with the compound buffing)...and when sanding, do NOT press down. Just allow the sand paper to do the "cutting" down. When I wet sand, I use a bucket of water with a lil automotive soap in it to keep the sandpaper from clogging or dragging along the surface, keeping the surface wet.
